Lawmakers scramble to pass last minute bills as legislative session draws to close [Video]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – There are just three weeks left in this year’s legislative session. Democrats say they are happy with the funding they have provided to their priorities, while Republicans feel more needs to be done to reduce crime and prevent election fraud.

Every year there are numerous bills, some get voted on, many do not. Speaker of the House Rep. Matt Ritter, (CT D-1), says they have made progress but there is still work to do.

“Sometimes you can’t say yes to everything,” said Ritter. “It can be frustrating for some people who were used to putting in a bill, regardless of the fiscal note gets passed out and then it gets put into the sauce.”

Fiscal guardrails prevent lawmakers from having an open checkbook, but Ritter says funding is going to important priorities like non-profits and higher education.
