Defense lawyers for the teenager charged with fatally shooting Chandler Stalcup argued in court Friday that their client’s immaturity and limited intellectual abilities mean the case should be transferred to Youth Court.
If the case were to be transferred, and the 16-year-old defendant were to be convicted, he would be sent to Pine Hills until age 18 and then be released on adult probation until age 25. If he were to be tried and convicted in adult court, he would begin his sentence at Pine Hills and be transferred to another facility at 18.
No decision was made Friday: after three hours of testimony, the hearing was continued to another day.
The 16-year-old suspect has been charged in the Oct. 28 shooting death of 18-year-old Rocky Mountain College freshman Chandler Stalcup. A second suspect, age 17, has also been charged.
