Lightning strike believed to cause fire at First Solar building Friday morning, officials say [Video]

WALBRIDGE, Ohio (WTVG) – Several fire and rescue crews are on the scene of a fire at a First Solar Energy Building that officials believe was caused by a lightning strike.

Officials with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a fire did break out in the First Solar PGT 2 North building Friday morning shortly before 3 a.m. Officials say the building was evacuated and First Solar employees were being sent home.

Fire crews had difficulty pinpointing the exact location of the fire due to the size of the building, but located a 100 ft by 20 ft area on fire that burned a hole through the roof, according to a Fire Chief on scene. Officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading inside and the main concern has now shifted to water damages.
