Man charged with unlawfully procuring U.S. citizenship after being convicted for killing 2 Alaska Native women [Video]

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – A South African national has been charged with unlawfully procuring naturalization in the U.S. by a federal grand jury in Alaska. This charge comes roughly two months after he was convicted of killing two Alaska Native women.

According to court documents, 52-year-old Brian Smith, made false statements on his naturalization application involving the past crimes he committed. He applied for and acquired naturalization in the U.S. between June and September of 2019.

When Smith was asked if he had ever been involved in a killing, sexual assault or had ever committed, or assisted in committing, or attempted to commit a crime he was not arrest for, he allegedly responded falsely. He answered “No” to all of the previous questions even though he had committed related crimes, including two murders which involved sexual assault and torture.
