Man dead, person detained following shooting near Park, Aviation in Tucson [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A man was killed and a person detained following a fatal shooting near Park and Aviation in Tucson on Friday, May 3.

The Tucson Police Department said the shooting happened in the 500 block of South Park Avenue around noon.

The TPD said witnesses and officers tried to save the man, but he died at the scene.

It apparently happened at a homeless encampment and witnesses told 13 News homeless people are often in the area.

Witnesses also told 13 News a woman was taken into custody after shooting the man, but the TPD was not able to confirm.

Project MORE High School, located near the scene, was placed under a secured protocol due to police activity. The Tucson Unified School District said that was lifted around 1:10 p.m. and classes were continued as planned.
