MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Police in Marion say they’re receiving reports of people going door-to-door trying to sell residential solar power units.

However, people are required to have a permit to make sales door-to-door in Marion, and police say no such permits have been issued.

“In some instances, they have initially claimed to be affiliated with Alliant Energy and in other instances they were caught on doorbell cameras, walking to the rear of homes before ringing the doorbell.”

Alliant Energy confirmed to police that they don’t have any employees or affiliates selling solar power units door-to-door.

Police say residents can ask to see a sales permit by anyone claiming to be a door-to-door sales person, since door-to-door sales people are required to show the permit if asked.

Police said anyone approached by someone trying to sell these solar power units should contact the police department, using the non-emergency number: 319-377-1511.
