U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. introduced the Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act, legislation that requires anyone who votes in a municipal election in the District of Columbia to be a U.S. Citizen and require proof of citizenship. This legislation is in response to a federal court dismissing a D.C. resident’s challenge of the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022 that allows noncitizens to vote in the nation’s capital. Senator Marshall’s legislation is cosponsored by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and led in the House by Rep. Timmons (R-SC-04).
