Medicaid advocates visit Georgia on nationwide bus tour [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) -Healthcare advocacy group The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network and national voting rights organization Black Voters Matter teamed up to start the “Sick and Tired Tour.”

They have coordinated stops in several cities in the 10 states that have not expanded Medicaid.

On Monday they visited Atlanta. They talked with people about people in the coverage gap like Pamela D. Williams from Worth County Georgia.

She is one of more than 1.2 million Georgians without insurance. She was diagnosed with lupus and lost her job, losing her benefits including health insurance.

“I couldn’t pay for my medicine, and one shot cost me $1400, $850 for my pills, $650 for another. Unless you have family or friends to help, unless you have doctors who are very familiar with you, you’ll lose everything,” said Williams.
