Mercer County, KY EMS faces possible closure amid contract agreement [Video]

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (FOX 56) — Leaders with Mercer County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) took to social media over the weekend, expressing their concerns about the potential closure of the department.

Teri Winchester, director of Mercer County EMS, said the private department is running out of money, and local governments have not been willing to negotiate a new contract to keep it in operation.

“It’s been silent for months,” Winchester said. “They don’t want to talk, they don’t want to negotiate, and we just keep going, keep making runs. We’ve done what they asked.”

Mercer County Fiscal Court declined our interview request because of an open investigation, referring to its Facebook post on April 12.

“During the intervening time, the Cities of Burgin, Harrodsburg, and the Mercer County Fiscal Court were made aware of complaints of service, delayed response in calls and an open current investigation through the Kentucky Office of Inspector General,” the …
