Metro Atlanta counties participates in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day [Video]

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day! It’s a day when law enforcement agencies across the country ask the public to drop off potentially dangerous medications, no questions asked.

Gwinnett County police set up eight separate take back stations across multiple cities. Investigators say many teenagers who use prescription drugs get them from family or friends’ home medicine cabinets.

The Douglasville Police Department said it collected over 160 pounds of medicine.

If you can’t make it to a drug takeback event, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends flushing certain old prescription medications.

However, while some drugs can be flushed down a toilet, unless the prescription bottle or an accompanying patient guide specifically says that, it is recommended that you mix the pills with something like coffee grounds or cat litter, and put that into a container and put it in …
