Mexican government sues Arizona gun shops [Video]

YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — The Mexican government is putting the blame on U.S. gun shops for the gun violence epidemic in Mexico.

Officials are now suing five gun shops in Arizona, alleging negligence when selling weapons and ammunition.

In the first ruling of its kind, a U.S. federal judge said that the Mexican government can move forward with its lawsuit against U.S. gun dealers.

The complaint said Diamondback Shooting Sports, SNG Tactical, The Hub Gun Store, Ammo A-Z, and Sprague’s Sports are all named in the lawsuit.

The suit claims the gun stores ignored several red flags, allowing straw sales as well as bulk and repeat gun purchases of weapons that ended up in Mexico.

Jonathan Lowy is the president of Global Action on Gun Violence and one of the co-counselors representing the Mexican government.

He said about 70% of the guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico are from the U.S.
