TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News)— A U.S. District Judge in Tucson has ruled that the Mexican government can move forward with its lawsuit against five gun shops in Arizona.
Mexico is claiming the shops played a part in the trafficking of guns and ammunition to drug cartels across the border.
Diamondback Shooting Sports, SNG Tactical LLC., and Loan Prairie LLC are the three gun shops in Tucson named on the lawsuit.
The Mexican Government is claiming cartel violence in Mexico is fueled primarily by border-state gun dealers, like the ones being sued.
John Petrush is the owner of John’s Guns and Ammo and has been selling and repairing guns for the past five years.
Petrush is not a part of the lawsuit.
“We do background checks on everybody who buys,” Petrush said. “What happens to the weapons when they leave the stores. Your guess is as good as mine.”
He believes the shops shouldn’t be held responsible.
