More details emerge of space weapon being developed by Russia | World News [Video]

Sources familiar with US intel on Russia’s alleged development of a space weapon have said the device would likely have the capacity to ‘destroy satellites’ with ‘massive energy waves.’

Potential targets for such a weapon would likely include spacecraft facilitating internet and mobile phone access among Russia’s enemies, CNN reports. 

It comes amid cryptic reports this week from UK officials and Nato allies that Russia is making significant advances on a new, space-based nuclear munition. 

On Wednesday, Republican Mike Turner, a member of US Congress for Ohio, issued a statement saying the House Intelligence Committee ‘had information concerning a serious national security threat.’

It was then on Friday that President Joe Biden confirmed Turner had been speaking about alleged advances in Russia’s anti-satellite capabilities. 

Biden stressed in his statement that there is ‘no nuclear threat to the people of America or anywhere else in the world with what Russia is doing at the moment.’
