Deadly severe storms unleashed destruction across the area Wednesday afternoon.

Strong winds of up to 70 mph toppled trees and powerlines, which caused more than 100,000 Duke Energy customers to lose power Wednesday night.

As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, more than 70,000 Duke Energy customers reported not having power. More than 25,000 outages have been reported in South Carolina as well.
