PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The Multnomah County Health Department announced Tuesday a new public service campaign aimed at educating young Portlanders about the dangers of fentanyl.
The county announced the campaign on the same day as National Fentanyl Awareness Day. On June 13, the campaign called ‘Expect Fentanyl’ will launch. The public will see posters at bus stops and ads on both social media and streaming services about the dangers of the deadly drug.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, 22 teens die each week in the United States from a fentanyl overdose.
Aricely Jimenez is a senior at Jefferson High School. She was part of the focus group for the campaign. She’s hopeful it will make an impact on other people her age.
“Spreading awareness by either media or here at school would be really good to reach out to the youth,” Jimenez said.
