Navy on track to miss recruiting goals [Video]

Chief of Personnel says Navy may only meet 66% of target.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Navy may miss its recruiting goals by 6,700 sailors this year.

The Chief of Naval Personnel reports that the Navy recruited a total of 9,800 new sailors in the first half of this year, roughly 66% of the service’s recruitment target for that period.

The Navy is lagging behind other services, all of which met at least 90% of their recruiting targets during the same period.

This marks the second time in a row that the Navy will miss its mark.

Back in January, the Navy began enlisting people who hadn’t graduated from high school or hadn’t earned a General Educational Diploma (GED).

The Navy has also raised the age limit for new recruits to the statutory maximum of 41 years old.
