Nebraska Vietnam vets honored ahead of national commemoration day [Video]

BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) – Friday is National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

Because it falls on Good Friday, some spent Thursday recognizing and learning more about the warriors who served in that conflict.

While Gov. Jim Pillen held a ceremony for them in Lincoln, others at Bellevue University did the same. That’s where it co-hosted a commemoration with the Omaha Vet Center, honoring the sacrifices of U.S. troops in the Vietnam War.

Earlier in the day, several vets held a panel, talking about their experiences. One of them was Jeff Flagg, an Army lieutenant colonel who served in that war from 1969-1970.

Flagg said he hopes people understand what Vietnam vets still go through every day.
