DENVER (KKTV) – On Tuesday, the Colorado House Judiciary Committee will have a hearing to consider a bill that would protect police officers who report misconduct or the illegal actions of other officers.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Springs Police Department will both have representatives there at the hearing. Police Chief Adrian Vasquez is against the bill and expressed his concerns with it.
“The chilling message this bill sends is that the law enforcement profession across Colorado lacks integrity and engages in misconduct to such an extent that radical additions to existing law are necessary. When existing workplace laws, department policies, or criminal laws are violated, there are already strong guardrails in place to deal with bad actors,” Police Chief Vasquez said.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they will not comment on the bill, but say Sheriff Joseph Roybal will be in attendance.
