New York State Fair theme selected by public: ‘Sharing the Bounty and Pride of NY’ [Video]

The theme for this year’s New York State Fair was suggested by a Syracuse woman and chosen by a statewide public vote.

New York State Fair officials announced today that the 2013 theme — the first to be chosen by the public — will be “Sharing the Bounty and Pride of NY.”

The theme was submitted by Kathy Denman, of Syracuse. Denman, who anchors morning traffic reports for several Syracuse-area radio stations, wins a day at the fair with state Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine.

Aubertine and state fair Director Thomas Ryan received more than 500 ideas and then narrowed the list to 10. Voting ended Monday.

“This was truly a statewide contest with nearly every region of the state submitting themes, voting and most importantly, making sure their voices were heard,” Aubertine said.

The theme will form the foundation of a statewide marketing and public relations campaign to promote the fair.
