Nonprofit working to curb veteran suicides [Video]

WOODSTOCK, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Here in the United States we lose thousands of veterans to suicide each year. One organization is working to change those stats, one event at a time, helping veterans acclimate to normal life after deployment.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 17 veterans take their lives every day in the United States.

“The organization was started 7 years ago by a US Army Retired helicopter pilot. He was losing people in Afghanistan in the war and when he came home realized he was still losing people to veteran suicide,” said Commander Marty Sloane, US Navy (Ret.) Warriors Soar.

Warrior Soar is a registered 501c3 nonprofit with a Georgia chapter.

“Soar stands for Support Outreach Assistance and Recovery,” said Sloane.

They are trying to curb veteran suicide rates by creating spaces for veterans to be together.
