CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — COASTER service between the Poinsettia and Solana Beach stations was temporarily halted Wednesday morning due to police activity.

The North County Transit District made the announcement shortly after 8:30 a.m.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to FOX 5 that deputies received a call reporting a train collision involving a pedestrian at 8:19 a.m. Deputies responded to the scene, along with the local fire department.

An NCTD spokesperson later told FOX 5 that a southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train “experienced a strike of a person who was trespassing in the right of way at Mile Post 237.7 near D Street in Encinitas.”

NCTD said the individual was transported by medical personnel. The nature of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Train service was disrupted during the emergency response and investigation. A bus bridge was established to assist customers who were impacted.

The tracks have since reopened and train service has resumed.
