On Feb. 25, a Polish Agribusiness Delegation from Poland visited Panna Maria and the burial site of Fr. Leopold Moczygemba, the priest who invited settlers from Silesia, a region in Europe now a part of Poland, to settle in South Texas in the 1850s. The visitors are part of an agribusiness study tour of Texas with Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership program (TALL).
On this tour, the delegation has visited Texas producers and growers in Friona and Hereford, and sites such as Palo Duro Canyon, Texas A&M, West Texas A&M, Caviness Beef Packers, Red Rock Dairy, and Western Equipment in the Panhandle; Littlefield, the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock; the Pawelek Ranch in Goliad, the Polish Heritage Center in Panna Maria, and the Riverwalk in San Antonio.
