Portland High School speech, debate team raise money for national tournament [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – It’s a tournament that thousands of high school speech and debate teams around the United States dream of going to, and one local team qualified for the first time in the program’s short history.

Parkrose High School will be sending two of its sophomores to the 2024 National Speech and Debate Tournament in June.

This is the first time in the school’s history that they will be sending a debate team to the prestigious tournament.

Niko Glenn and Tom Huynh will be debating a single policy they’ve been debating all year.

“A typical tournament is four rounds a day each round can be two or three hours so it’s real busy,” Glenn said.

The dynamic duo competed around the state and the country during this school. They just returned from a smaller national tournament held in Chicago about two weeks ago.
