Portland Sea Dogs mark 30 years since their first home game [Video]

The Portland Sea Dogs are playing a noon game Thursday against New Hampshire at Hadlock Field. Thursday also marks 30 years since the first game the team ever played at Hadlock.The Sea Dogs, who were a Florida Marlins affiliate when they first started play in 1994, opened their inaugural season on the road, winning 2 to 1 on April 7 thanks to a home run in the 14th inning from Charles Johnson.Portland finally played their first home opener on April 18, 1994, against the Albany-Colonie Yankees. Kathie Lee Gifford sang the national anthem, and Frank Gifford threw out the first pitch. Jesus Tavarez picked up the first Portland hit at Hadlock Field, a single in the first inning, but the Sea Dogs did lose that first home game by a final of 7 to 6.Now, 30 years later, the Sea Dogs remain the longest-running professional sports organization in Maine history.They …
