BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The national organization Purpose Built Communities is holding a conference in Birmingham this week, focusing on the Woodlawn community. The group aims to create healthy and sustainable neighborhoods.

The leaders of Woodlawn United want to showcase the changes, and demonstrate to potential homeowners and businesses that this is an excellent place to be. The three-day conference will highlight holistic and equitable neighborhood revitalization. Purpose Built Communities CEO Carol Naughton says that Woodlawn represents these values, making it an obvious choice to host the conference for the first time since the pandemic.

Attendees can participate in various workshops that will focus on attaining wealth, specifically in the Black community. They will hear from leaders from all over the country. Mashonda Taylor with Woodlawn United is excited to showcase how they are changing the narrative for this area.
