CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — As part of The Center for Politics 25th Anniversary, Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is at UVA as part of the weekend celebration.
Raffensperger is known for accepting a recorded phone call from former President Donald Trump in 2021 to overturn the election results in Geogia.
Raffensperger was joined by panelists including the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Jen Easterly, to discuss the threat of AI in the upcoming presidential election.
Though Raffensperger says homegrown threats could be present, his concern lies overseas.
“We know China is a big player in this. But it could be Russia, Korea. It could be some other bad actor that is trying to really create disruptions,” Raffensperger said.
In a highly contested presidential election set for November, Raffensperger says AI can play a part in polarizing the nation even more.
