POST FALLS, Idaho — Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest (RHN) is investigating a security breach that stole patients’ information in mid-January.
According to a release from RHN, the hospital was alerted on Feb. 1 that there was unusual activity in its Information Technology (IT) between Jan. 16 and Feb. 4. After an investigation with assistance from a third-party cybersecurity firm, it was confirmed that an unauthorized party had access to patients’ private information.
“While in our IT network, the unauthorized party accessed and acquired files that contain information about certain patients, including their names and one or more of the following: addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance plan member IDs, claims data, diagnosis, and prescription information,” RHN said. “For some patients, this information may have included their Social Security and driver’s license numbers.”
