ROCKLIN, Calif. (KTXL) – Students packed Rocklin High School’s gymnasium on Friday afternoon to honor one of their own.
“I was super surprised. I didn’t know that something like this could happen,” said Gemma Templeman. “For everyone to come out, it really put in perspective how big of a deal this is.”
Templeman is the school’s first-ever CIF state champion. (The school opened in 1992.)
Gemma Templeman, a wrestler, competed at the state wrestling championships back in February; she won her weight class.
“I definitely do think that all those hard hours paid off,” said Templeman.
Rocklin High School held a rally on Friday afternoon to honor her accomplishment, which included hanging a permanent banner inside the gym.
Templeman says she has been touring college campuses. She currently holds eight scholarship offers, and plans to commit to a program by May.
