JACKSON COUNTY, MI — A major election year might shake up Jackson-area governments as much as it does for the nation at large.
In addition to the presumptive presidential rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Jackson County voters will be asked to decide who sits in various significant state, county and city leadership seats.
Contested local elections in 2024 include the Jackson County sheriff, prosecuting attorney and county clerk seats. The filing deadline for partisan and nonpartisan candidates to appear on the primary ballot was April 23.
The primary is Aug. 6, and the general election is Nov. 5.
Candidates with no political party affiliation can still file to run for partisan offices in the November general election through July 18. Deadlines for local offices like library and school boards have also not yet passed.
So far, here’s a look at who is running.
