PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Sen. Mark Kelly, a Democrat from Arizona, urged the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Tuesday to take action to protect sensitive military installations and operations from unmanned, aerial drones.
This follows an Arizona’s Family investigation, as well as an increasing number of reports that mysterious drones are flying over military facilities.
“Why are the current drone detection and defeat systems that we currently have, why are they failing?” asked Sen. Kelly during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
“It’s an area that we collectively have to continue to work on. Not only in defense here in the United States but also in our forward locations where we have many of our servicemembers deployed,” said Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., who is with the U.S. Air Force and serves as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
