SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — SMUD customers may see increased bills come May 1, after approved changes for the 2024-25 year go into effect.

Customers, depending on how much electricity they use per month, could see an extra $3.72 per month on their bill due to the 2.75% increase.

SMUD says the increase will cover “wildfire prevention and mitigation, infrastructure improvements to maintain high reliability, clean energy compliance requirements and increased operating costs including materials and labor costs.”

There was an increase in January and there will be another in January 2025 and May 2025. Each is 2.75%.

For the average SMUD customer, the rate increases would add:

  • $3.72 per month beginning May 1, 2024
  • $3.81 per month beginning Jan. 1, 2025
  • $3.92 per month beginning May 1, 2025
