AUSTIN, Minn. – Austin Salvation Army is hosting their 31st Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May.11. Letter Carrier Food Drive Coordinator Bob Rosel says they received 20,000 pounds of food last year and expect the same this year.
Rosel says the two most vulnerable groups to food insecurity are children and adults, which makes the food drive crucial.
“Studies have shown that children who do not have the proper nutrition don’t learn as well in school so it’s important for kids to have nutritious food available to them,” said Rosel. “And then the elderly of course they’re struggling with housing cost, maintaining their medical insurance, perhaps even wondering if they can afford their prescriptions.”
