Cold weather forecast Tuesday morning, warm again by afternoon [Video]

The latest cold snap ends with warmer weather and some scattered storms later this week. Check the video forecast for the latest.SHORT-TERM FORECAST After another cold start, Tuesday afternoon looks very nice:A light south breeze around 10 miles per hour.A few high, thin, patchy clouds drifting in from the northwest.A healthy temperature warm up in the afternoon to the 70s.FEELING MORE LIKE SPRINGThis late April cool snap will not last much longer. Temperatures will run slightly below normal on Tuesday, but warmer weather and higher humidity make it feel more like spring through the rest of the week.Warmer, muggier air also sets up a chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday evening through Thursday. Most of the available short-term model guidance will struggle with Wednesday and Thursday’s storm potential until the triggers creating them get closer to Alabama. One example of that model guidance suggests a stripe of scattered heavy downpours for Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, and Chilton Counties. Many other areas will get little to nothing at all in this setup, while a few get more than one inch of rain. There will also be a limited risk of a severe storm or two with some large hail or strong wind gusts.LOOKING TOWARD THE WEEKENDFriday, Saturday, and Sunday will all bring mostly sunny, warm, and humid weather for Central Alabama. Temperatures climb into the 80s, and there will be no significant threat of thunderstorms for weekend events like the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park. The weekend chance of rain will not be exactly zero. A few showers or a brief storm may impact the northwestern part of the state, but as of now, we do not see a high enough threat for rain to force cancellations or changes in weekend plans.Next week will bring some heavy rain and storms for most of the state from Monday into Tuesday.STAY WEATHER-AWAREFor the latest weather coverage for your area, click here.
