Eight law enforcement officers were shot during a shootout while serving a warrant Monday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina, and four have died, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.One of the victims was a police officer with CMPD. Three were officers with the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force. Here’s what we know so far about those who died:William “Alden” Elliot Officer Elliot had served with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for 14 years, assigned to the Special Operations and Intelligence Unit. Elliot joined the NCDAC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit in 2016.He is survived by his wife and child. Samuel Poloche Officer Samuel Poloche had served with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for 14 years, assigned to the Special Operations and Intelligence Unit. Poloche joined the NCDAC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit in 2013.He is survived by his wife and two children. Joshua Eyer Investigator Joshua Eyer served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for six years and was the Officer of the Month for April 2024. He is survived by his wife and 3-year-old son.”Officer Eyer was a six-year veteran with the CMPD, and I am truly grateful for his bravery, service and ultimate sacrifice. He was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service and had served in the Western District of North Carolina for the last 10 years, according to a release.He’s survived by his wife and four children.
