The federal government has digitized all laws passed by Congress [Video]

WASHINGTON – The US Government Publishing Office (GPO) has digitized every single law and resolution passed by the federal congress since 1789.

GPO announced the publishing of an additional trove of digitized congressional documents on April 16. All laws and resolutions passed from the first congress to the current congress are now available online.

The file for the first session of the first congress is over 800 pages alone. The Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation and the US Constitution are all included in the updated collection.

GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern touted the digitization effort as a win for public civic literacy.

“The American people are the real beneficiaries of having another collection on GovInfo that dates to our country’s humble beginnings,” Halpern said.

While the Statutes at Large were already publicly available through the US Library of Congress, the newly digitized versions make them far more accessible to history enthusiasts throughout the United States.
