KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The National World War I Museum and Memorial is opening a new exhibit, with a look at The Great War through the eyes of its children.
The exhibition is called “The Little War,” displayed at the Exhibit Hall just above the main gallery.
It’s created for both children and adults to understand the war from a child’s perspective. Museum curators said the exhibit uses toys, games, photos, and artifacts from the war to showcase how children lived and may have processed their surroundings during World War I.
“It was really important that we talk about the experiences of children because they were such a significant and vital part of the war and their experiences are often overlooked,” curator specialist, Natalie Lovgren said.
The exhibit also features a “living room” with WWI-era books, games, and puzzles.
“My hope is this exhibit is a safe space where adults and children can learn about war and have important conversations,” Lovgren said.
