RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -The House of Representatives voted to pass a bill that could possibly lead to a nationwide ban against one of the world’s most popular apps.

South Dakota’s Representative Dusty Johnson voted “yes” this week to encourage TikTok to decouple itself from the Chinese Communist Party. Johnson says China is using Tik Tok to engage in espionage and he sees the app as a serious threat to National security.

“During that height of the Cold War, Americans rightfully would have been concerned if the Soviet Union would have controlled the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, KOTA, WNAX Radio, the CBS Evening News, we wouldn’t allow adversaries in the Soviet Union to control the American public square in that was, and we shouldn’t allow the Chinese communist party to control it either,” said Johnson.
