Time capsule over 100 years old found during high school demolition [Video]

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC/Gray News) – A demolition crew in Minnesota found a treasure that stopped everything as they were tearing down an old high school – a time capsule more than 100 years old.

The time capsule from 1920 was opened Monday and its contents were revealed to community members during a press conference.

Owatonna High School Principal Cory Kath said it was a special moment for everyone involved.

“We’re really excited, you know, to have something like this preserved for that long and then be able to open that up and then share with the community as it was actually just being unveiled,” Kath said. “For a lot of us, it was the idea that first of all, it was well preserved, and the fact that it got to tell a story.”

Newspapers, financial statements, rosters of different city organizations, coins and more were found well preserved inside the capsule.
