SAN ANTONIO — Two women from San Antonio employed at CPS Energy will represent the city at a national all-female construction competition.
Miranda Menchaca and Leticia Ortiz are two of only three female machine operators employed at CPS Energy. They are thriving a man’s world, as women make up only 11 percent of employees in the construction industry, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics.
In March, Miranda and Leticia will represent HOLT CAT at the first-ever all-female Caterpillar Women in Construction competition. The competition will consist of three machine operator challenges against other women from across North America. The challenges will test their technical knowledge, precision, speed and accuracy, along with safety operations. They will compete on a variety of different machines.
