LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new food pantry was unveiled in Louisville’s Clifton neighborhood on Saturday.

United Crescent Hill Ministries upgraded its food pantry after a collaborative effort between faith leaders, the community, nonprofits and businesses. The United Market at 150 State Street was renovated from an old boiler room.

The food pantry gives people the chance to be selective with their choices.

“People who have dietary issues will be able to choose their food,” Mark Howell, executive director, United Crescent Hill Ministries, said. “It’s about the dignity of that, and also about reducing waste.”

People don’t need an appointment to visit the pantry. The food pantry is open Mondays through Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

“A lot of people who come here are on a fixed income, so that social security check doesn’t go up for inflated prices,” Howell said.
