USDA research facility breaks ground
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the U.S. Department of Agriculture broke ground Monday on a $160 million facility both agencies say will lay the groundwork for agricultural innovation to continue well into the 21st century.
The National Center for Resilient and Regenerative Agriculture at Nebraska Innovation Campus in Lincoln aims to pioneer new methods and technology for feeding a growing population using fewer resources.
The center will eventually house as many as 150 scientists as well as the staff to support them in two offices: the Agroecosystem Management Research Unit and the Wheat, Sorghum and Forage Research Unit.
Garner Industries lays off employees after tornado
Ten days after a tornado destroyed its facility, Garner Industries said Monday it is laying off nearly half of its workforce.
Scott McLain, Garner’s CEO and president, announced 62 layoffs, saying, “We’ve worked hard to find a path to move forward. These layoffs are necessary for us to stay in business.”
