USPS to keep Sioux Falls processing facility open [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – After concerns were raised about a 10-year plan that proposed to move some processing from Sioux Falls to Omaha, the United States Postal Service has announced it will keep the Sioux Falls facility open as a Local Processing Center and invest $12.75 million into the facility.

In March, the American Postal Workers Union raised concerns about the 10-year “Delivering for America” plan proposed by the USPS, which aims to modernize the postal system and improve efficiency. The APWU was concerned that the move could lead to layoffs and those who made comments at a recent USPS public meeting were concerned moving operations to Omaha would delay rural mail service.

Now, the USPS says after a “thorough business review and solicitation of public feedback on the facility’s future,” the facility in Sioux Falls will remain open and will be modernized as a Local Processing Center. No career employees will be laid off.
