CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump said he would not sign a federal abortion ban if he won re-election in November. His comments come just days after the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision to enforce a long-dormant law that bans nearly all abortions.
“Trump is not like that. He’s very transactional,” said J. Miles Coleman with the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
When asked by a reporter at an event if he would sign an abortion ban if Congress sent one to his deck, Trump simply replied “No.”
“He’s going to do whatever he needs to do to either win or get praise,” says Coleman.
Coleman says Trump’s comments show that he may not be as ideological as some people may think. This isn’t going over well with some groups.
