Va. town manager accuses mayor, town council of harassment [Video]

In a recent case from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the work environment for the Town of Abington, is not put in the best light. The former town manager sued the town alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and breach of contract.

The former town manager alleged that there was regular abusive conduct by the mayor and town council to include an “escalating pattern of ‘unprofessional and … outrageous behavior” including being subjected to “drunken, belligerent, profane phone calls at odd hours of the night.”

The town manager, according to the case, suffers from anxiety, depression and high blood pressure which was exacerbated by the allegedly abusive conduct. In a somewhat complex fact pattern, the town manager attempted to seek changes to the daily office environment and filed a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as draft a letter to town authorities …
