NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Two stranded boaters were rescued on Friday (March 22) by the United States Coast Guard and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The USCG was first alerted around 6:30 a.m. Friday that two overdue boaters were last seen aboard an 18-foot black flat bottom boat in the Lake Pontchartrain area.
The USCG launched a Jayhawk helicopter and and a 29-foot response boat to search for the boaters.
The helicopter crew located the distressed boaters and a disabled vessel.
A rescue swimmer was deployed from the helicopter to bring the boaters to a nearby sheriff’s boat.
The sheriff’s boat crew transported the boaters back to shore.
The USCG says the boaters were reportedly in stable condition.
