Vietnam Veteran Memorial unveiled at Tower Park in Fort Thomas [Video]

FT. THOMAS, Ky. (WXIX) – A new Vietnam veteran memorial that was years in the making was unveiled in Fort Thomas Saturday.

The Vietnam Veteran Memorial now sits at Tower Park in Fort Thomas.

On it are the names of 36 Campbell County Veterans who died in the Vietnam war.

Retired U.S. Army Major Ron Allari says he planned and designed it.

“It was real important. I think it provides a little bit of closure,” Allari says. “When Vietnam Veterans came home, it wasn’t a real nice reception we got. We were shunned a little bit because everybody thought we were the bad guys and we were doing the bad things over there. It made it a lot simpler now for us to be able to say, ‘Look, we were just doing the job our country asked us to do.’”
