LOUISIANA, USA — Polls opened at 7 a.m. on Saturday for the municipal elections in Louisiana, which offer voters competitive races in 45 parishes including Southeast Louisiana.

Eight tax propositions are on St. Tammany Parish ballots, including a sales tax for the Slidell Police Department.
According to NOLA.com, the tax has been endorsed by Slidell P.D. Chief Randy Fandal who said the bill would generate $4.5 million for salary increases, new department headquarters and a city jail.
Depending on the district, St. Tammany voters will decide whether to put their tax dollars toward recreation districts in Mandeville and the Bush area, as well as funding for Fire District 5 in the Folsom area.
