One important point to note is that regular sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection for direct solar viewing during a solar eclipse. You need specially designed eclipse glasses.

When looking to purchase these glasses, it’s crucial to remember a few key factors:

  • Do your research and seek out sellers approved by the American Astronomical Society. If you’re shopping online, make sure you can clearly see who the seller is and who manufactured the lenses.
  • The primary feature to look for is the International Organization for Standardization code of 12312-2. This is critical in ensuring the glasses are safe to use.
  • After acquiring your glasses, inspect them meticulously for any damage. If there’s any damage, the glasses are not safe to use.
