For this week’s segment of “What’s Going Around,” WAAY 31 Morning Anchor Demetria Green called local doctors to find out which ailments are affecting kids the most right now.
They told her, there is a resurgence of Covid-19, along with seasonal allergies and the common cold.
Doctors say to keep a close eye on ringworm because it can spread rapidly in the warmer months.
They say ringworm thrives in warm, moist areas like public showers, locker rooms and pools. It is caused by a fungus and develops into a rash in the shape of a circle.
You can also contract it from your pets or standing barefoot in soil that’s infected. Since it is a fungus, antibiotics won’t work. Researchers say you must take antifungal medicine.
Here are some things they recommend to prevent it:
– Wash your hands frequently
– Do not share other people’s hats, clothing, hair brushes, etc.
– Keep your feet dry
