WASHINGTON, D.C. — If you’re spending less than $250 celebrating your mom this Mother’s Day, you’d be spending less than average, according to a recent survey.

Mother’s Day spending is expected to reach $33.5 billion this year, according to an annual survey from the National Retail Federation. This is actually down from a record $35.7 billion spent last year.

The survey said 84% of U.S. adults are expected to celebrate the holiday. On average they’re expected to spend $254.04 on gifts and celebrations (spending on food is included). Last year’s record was $274.02 per person, on average.

If the predictions pan out, this would be the second highest year for Mother’s Day spending. Consumers spent $26.7 billion in 2020, $28.1 billion in 2021 and $31.7 billion in 2022.

Flowers and greeting cards, at 74%, are the most popular fists, follow by special outings like dinner or brunch (54%). Consumers are predicted to spend $5.9 billion …
